New Tunnel Construction Under Straits Of Mackinac

The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners recently passed a resolution supporting the Great Lakes Tunnel in the Straits of Mackinac, joining 32 other Michigan counties in favor of the project. Enbridge plans to build a four-mile tunnel beneath the straits to house a new segment of the Line 5 pipeline, aiming to protect Michigan’s waters and ensure a reliable energy supply. Anna Mooney, Enbridge’s government relations manager, emphasized the widespread support for the project, noting that over 70 percent of Michiganders favor its construction. The tunnel will also serve as a utility corridor connecting Michigan’s peninsulas.
